Residents and visitors alike enjoy the accommodations and amenities of the Four Diamond Pinehurst Resort, which operates eight different golf courses and a spa. Committed to offering top quality services, the Village of Pinehurst strives to ensure that residents enjoy a wonderful quality of life and visitors have a memorable experience. Originally known as Tuftstown, Pinehurst was established in 1895 when Boston philanthropist James Tufts purchased 5,800 acres of timberland in central North Carolina. Tufts was intrigued by the area’s mild climate and wanted to create a winter retreat and health resort here.

He commissioned Frederick Law Olmsted, designer of New York’s Central Park, to lay out the village streets. In 1896, the Holly Inn opened, and the area had 20 cottages, a general store and a dairy. Some hotel guests introduced the game of golf without the benefit of a course .In 1898, a rudimentary nine-hole course was constructed. By 1901, Tufts had opened what is now the Pinehurst Resort complete with riding, hunting, polo, lawn bowling, bicycling, tennis and archery.

The same year, Tufts hired Donald Ross, the “father of modern golf architecture,” to oversee golf operations. The acclaimed Pinehurst No. 2 course, one of many he designed or redesigned, is ranked as one of the best in the world. By 1903, Pinehurst was becoming a major national golf center.

In another colorful chapter of Pinehurst history, Annie Oakley, sharpshooter and star of the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show, arrived in 1916. She stayed for four years to give shooting exhibitions and instruction at the Pinehurst Gun Club.

Choosing Party Invitations for Home Party

Posted in Travelling  by admin
April 14th, 2009

Through the cheerful design, kids birthday invitations should clearly set the tone for the party, whether it is dressy or casual, themed or not themed. Girls birthday invitations are no different, and with the right tone and theme, these invites help create a cohesive and memorable birthday.
Girls birthday invitations will set the tone for the Party Invitations and should match the theme you choose. For example, if the celebration will be held as a backyard pool party, then the kids birthday invitations should not depict a frilly, flowery theme. Guests might interpret a dressier occasion and not come prepared with swimming trunks and flip flops.
When selecting a theme for your Kids Birthday Invitations, choose one that highlights her hobbies. Does she love to play dress-up or constantly imagine she is a fairy princess? Perhaps she loves to draw or swim or play with dolls. Whatever her passions, you should base her birthday party theme and kids birthday invitations on one of her interests.
If your daughter loves to draw and make crafts, you might consider having an arts and crafts themed birthday party. This theme gives the party structure and keeps kids busy and entertained. You could send kids’ birthday invitations picturing scissors and glue on a colorful background to signal a hands-on crafts party. At the party, you could have the girls decorate t-shirts or small tote bags to take home. Or, you might host the party at a local paint-your-own-pottery store and send girls birthday invitations featuring an array of colorful paint supplies spread out across a bright pink background.
What little girl doesn’t dream of being a princess? Whether she is fascinated by a particular princess, such as Cinderella, or just loves princesses in general, you might send girls birthday invitations in light pink with a sparkling tiara on the front. Then, you might ask everyone to wear their best princess outfit to the party and welcome the girls with a tiara to wear.
If your daughter loves to play dress-up, why not host a tea party for the “ladies” by having an array of feather boas, hats, party gloves, and beaded necklaces for the girls to adorn themselves before tea? You could send girls birthday invitations featuring delicate tea cups Stationery on lace doilies or choose a more colorful kids birthday invitation with a bright pink background and a border of tea cups in various patterns. To vary the theme, you could invite guests to bring a doll or teddy bear, setting up small chairs to accommodate the extra guests.
Creating a theme that connects with your daughter’s interests will separate her birthday party from a generic one with just cake and ice cream. With a fun and personalized party, her celebrations are truly meaningful because they are now centered on a theme she loves. Selecting girls birthday invitations that complements the theme not only sets the tone, but can double as a special keepsake so she never forgets her party.

Las Vegas Hotels With the Best Family Oriented Pools

Posted in Hotels  by admin
February 27th, 2009

Every year my boys can’t wait for our annual family Vegas vacation. This year it will be our 7th year. Lots of people disagree that Vegas is a good place for families with children, but we love it. My husband and I are not gamblers or drinkers and we truly enjoy spending our free time with our two boys.

Las Vegas has so much to offer beside the gambling and the nightlife. Every year there is more stuff to see and experience.

We usually visit Las Vegas every September right after Labor Day weekend. The weather is great and we can’t wait to lounge by the pool sipping cold drinks. We always pick a hotel with the best pool that is family friendly and we won’t get dirty looks by bringing our boys down. The top 3 picks of our family are The MGM Grand, The Monte Carlo and The Mirage.

#1 The MGM Grand
The MGM Grand has an amazing pool complex. In my opinion one of the best in Vegas. You feel like you entered an exotic paradise with lots of lush greenery, beautiful flowers, fountains and little island connected with bridges. This massive over 6 acre paradise offers 5 swimming pools, 3 whirlpools and lazy river. The lazy river was a hit with my family. It floats under bridges, through waterfalls and ends in a little Lagoon with waterfall which is perfect wading pool for babies and little ones.

I must admit this paradise has a few drawbacks. One of the drawbacks is that you need to rent a tube or a raft to truly experience the lazy river . I believe the rental is $15 per tube per day. The MGM Grand is known to run special promotions where you can get the rental cheaper, free or 2 for 1. Before you book your room you should check out websites with coupons for MGM (just go to Google and type coupons MGM Las Vegas in to the search - early vegas is a good one). The second drawback is that the pool complex is located quite far from the guest elevators. You need to walk through the promenade with stores and restaurants to get to the pool, but the walk is well worth it.

#2 The Monte Carlo
The Monte Carlo pool is much smaller in comparison to the pool complex at The Grand , but we enjoyed it regardless. They are kids friendly and that’s all that matters.

The Monte Carlo offers 3 swimming pools, whirlpool and kids pool. If you are visiting Las Vegas with little kids you will love the enclosed kiddie pool with kids size beach chairs. The wave pool with 3ft waves was designed to simulate the ocean and is a blast for the whole family. If you want to have a swim then try the Lagoon pool. It is a nice and relaxing square pool with a waterfall. My favorite was the relaxing 400 feet of Easy River Ride. There is a tube rental as well, but you can purchase a tube inside their beach shop for around $12.00 and the rental shop will even blow it up for you. This is a real money saver for larger families or longer stay like us. After you done with it , why not pass the tube onto a new family.

#3 The Mirage
The pool at the Mirage is a series of pools connected by bridges and lagoons with cascading waterfalls in tropical setting. They used to have a waterslide , but to a big disappointment of my children they closed it down. They offer raft rental to float around, but we never needed one. You can ask for complimentary life jackets for children. The pool is located close to the guest elevators just down a little promenade with few stores, coffee bistro and ice cream shop. If you will decide to order a drink take my advice and order small size. If you don’t specify they will bring you a huge drink with even bigger price tag.

Just a tip: Most of the pools in Vegas say that you are not allowed to save lounge chairs at the pool, but everybody does it. If you don’t you won’t get a good spot because hundreds of people before you ignored the rule. Live and Learn.

Enjoy Las Vegas with Kids.
